DevLog Week2: Prototyping systems and assets
Hello everyone, second week of development for my project, still provisionally named MK1 (see week 1 DevLog).
-> Objectives met ?
The goals I set for this week were to have a small demo of the hub world with NPC dialog and a door to level 1. These goals were met but I also wanted to have a few generated chunks for level 1. In this aspect I have failed as the level 1 prototype is still entirely static.

-> So, what’s happening?
A lot of time was spend on making 3D assets (and putting in place the workflow to make 3D assets). For now, I’ve settled on using Blender, making multiple big .blend files, one per «asset pack».
Asset packs represents environments in the game that must be homogeneous. There will be Fantasy, Antiquity, Disney-like, etc.
I export each individual asset to .obj (at least for now since they are pretty simple and static, but I may explore other formats once I tackle animated characters).

Along the way I’m also trying to setup a file architecture that makes some sense and will scale easily. I think it would be very painful to deal with badly organized files in a month or two once there are thousands of them. This, I’ve found, is already easier said than done, so I’ll just have to keep typing «tree» in my terminal every few days and really look and think about how much sense it makes...
-> Objectives for week three?
I will absolutely need to get the procedural generation aspect of level 1 started, as I think it would be useless to produce more prototype assets and game-play systems if I’m not clear on the way the environment will be constructed.
If I am able, I will also invest some time on prototyping a main character with animations (probably the Rogue).
Thanks for your time, I hope to see you again next week, have a good one!
